Proposed Amendments to Lodge Rules

Several proposed amendments to the Kunamokst Lodge Standing Rules have been submitted to the lodge executive committee (LEC) for consideration.

In accordance with Article XX of the lodge rules, all proposals must be published on the lodge website a minimum of 21 days prior to the LEC meeting in which a vote will take place. This is to allow the lodge membership to review and provide feedback on the proposed changes.

These proposed amendments are scheduled for the January 11, 2026, LEC meeting agenda. Lodge members are encouraged to review the proposed changes and submit their feedback or comments using the form below.

Proposed Changes

Article IV, Section 2.2.6

Original Text:  “Responsible for training and mentoring the chapter program vice chiefs.”

Proposed Text: Text removed

Reasoning: Chapter leadership positions do not mirror the lodge. Some only have a chapter chief while others may only have one or two vice chiefs without a specific specialty title.

Effective Date: Immediately upon approval

Article IV, Section 2.3.2

Original Text:  “Responsible for training and mentoring the chapter service vice chiefs.

Proposed Text:Text removed

Reasoning: Chapter leadership positions do not mirror the lodge. Some only have a chapter chief while others may only have one or two vice chiefs without a specific specialty title. .

Effective Date: Immediately upon approval

Article IV, Section 2.4.6

Original Text:  “Responsible for maintaining a sub account for each chapter’s funds which will roll over from year to year.

Proposed Text: “Responsible for maintaining a sub account for each chapter’s funds.”

Reasoning: The LEC should be able to decide if funding roles over or is a “use it or lose it” arrangement for lodge-provided funding. Individual chapter fundraising will remain allocated in accordance with the lodge’s fiscal policy and Lodge Finance Handbook.

Effective Date: Immediately upon approval

Article IV, Section 2.5.2

Original Text:  “Responsible for training and mentoring all chapter ceremonies vice chiefs and overseeing the lodge ceremony team.

Proposed Text:Text removed

Reasoning: Chapter leadership positions do not mirror the lodge. Some only have a chapter chief while others may only have one or two vice chiefs without a specific specialty title. The line about overseeing the lodge ceremony team is covered by Article IV, 2.5.1.

Effective Date: Immediately upon approval

Article IV, Section 2.7.2

Original Text:  “Responsible for signing and sending annual membership cards upon payment of dues.”

Proposed Text: Text removed

Reasoning: Just like Scouting America membership cards, OA membership cards are available digitally through the OA Member Portal, allowing members to view and print their own membership card. The removal of Article IV, Section 2.7.2 allows for flexibility by permitting the lodge executive committee to decide whether the printing of membership cards, either in general or by special request, is a valuable use of lodge resources each year.

Effective Date: Immediately upon approval

Article VII, Section 9

Original Text: “A record of all decisions voted on shall be made available to the general membership on the lodge website within two weeks after the vote.”

Proposed Text: “A record of all decisions voted on shall be made available to the general membership on the lodge website following the approval by the lodge executive committee.”

Reasoning: The best practice regarding minutes is to not publish them until they have been approved during a future meeting. This prevents inaccurate or incomplete information from being shared.

Effective Date: Immediately upon approval

Article X, Section 6

Original Text: “Each chapter shall have an adult chapter adviser, appointed annually by the lodge adviser.”

Proposed Text: “Each chapter shall have an adult chapter adviser, appointed annually by the lodge adviser. Chapter advisers may appoint associate chapter advisers, as needed, with approval of the lodge adviser.”

Reasoning: The lodge rules does not currently address the appointment of associate chapter advisers.

Effective Date: Immediately upon approval

Article XIV, Section 2

Original Text: “There will be a fee collected before the Brotherhood ceremony to cover the cost of the sash. The cost will be decided by the lodge executive committee.”

Proposed Text: The lodge may collect a fee for Brotherhood as determined by the lodge executive committee.

Reasoning: The current text dictates that the cost of Brotherhood will cover the sash, prohibiting the lodge from subsidizing Brotherhood costs if they choose.

Effective Date: Immediately upon approval

Article XVIII, Section 6

Original Text: “Brotherhood candidates shall pay for their induction to cover the cost of the sash.”

Proposed Text: Text removed

Additionally, renumber Article XVIII, Section 7 to Section 6.

Reasoning: Duplicated information from Article XIV, Section 2.

Effective Date: Immediately upon approval
